Description
An original member of the Jazz Crusaders, trombonist Wayne Henderson assembled a nonet called the Freedom Sounds in 1967. One of two seminal albums the band cut for Atlantic, People Get Ready is an accessible mixture of R&B covers and original material, melding jazz, blues, soul, funk, gospel, Latin and pop idioms into an eclectic potpourri that reflects the experimental ethos of the late 1960s.
