Description

Beat Spacek is the latest project from Steve Spacek (Spacek, Africa HiTech, Black Pocket, Space Invadas), a British vocalist and producer whose fearless approach to creation has always been progressive and highly original. His work transcends genre and style, instead focusing more on swing, melody, vibe and atmosphere.

From the paranoid, post-punk, sleng teng musings of I Wanna Know to the nu wave pop-powered love song Inflight Wave, Modern Streets is a direct reflection of his experience growing up in South East London in the 80s, envisioned through the mind of a 21st Century rudeboy.

Ghanaian Highlife is re-imagined in digital form on Tonight and Stand Firm tips its hat to the dancehall with a futuristic rinse, whilst the sub-bass powered anthem Alone In Da Sun draws on the finest elements of dub steps sonic vocabulary and reworks them into a loose, new age club jam, brimming with soul and charisma.

Modern Streets sees Steve once again take the reigns as a solo artist creating a record that is as much a love letter to the future as it is an ode to the past. Created largely using iPhone and iPad apps, the album once again finds Steve liberated through new technologies.

From his legendary output with the band Spacek, solo work on the cult Sound In Color imprint and collaborations with the late, great J Dilla to his under-the-radar Black Pocket project with brother dBridge and his most recent work with Mark Pritchard as one half of Africa HiTech, Steves fearless approach to creation has always been progressive and highly original.

For fans of Flying Lotus, J Dilla, Africa HiTech, Seven Davis Jr, Shafiq Husayn.

2LP features heavyweight 180g vinyl housed in 5mm spine sleeve with download code.

Steve Spacek never fails to fulfil our desire for future boogie. Gilles Peterson

If youre looking for music where the bass and drums are dealt with impeccably and the musicality is not obvious in where it lands or moves then Steve is your man. And if thats not enough, you get the added bonus of one of the best voices to come from the UK. With this album I hear South London, New Wave / Synth pop, soul music but all done in a forward thinking way, and completely honest and truthful. Mark Pritchard (Africa HiTech)

Still and always will be my biggest inspiration dBridge

Excellent, I love Steve Spacek Joe Goddard (Hot Chip)
