Ive got fire, Ive got soul! And power! And volume!
While playing with the Swedish band Soundtrack Of Our Lives, guitarist Mattias Bärjed felt the urge to form a classic four piece band (drums, guitar, bass, lead vocals) that would play straight-up heavy rock n roll.
As far as a musical direction there was a clear intention to sound like a mix of early Van Halen, The Stooges and The Who, although their influences extend to other legendary acts such as Led Zeppelin, UFO and AC/DC. First in line to join the band was longtime friend and bass wizard Jan Martens, who was followed shortly thereafter by drummer Ludwig Dahlberg (ex-International Noise conspiracy).
The final, last and very vital piece of the Free Fall puzzle was to find a lead vocalist. The word hit the streets that the band was looking for a vocalist in the school of Steve Marriot and Bon Scott. Then came a tip-off from Mattias and Ludwigs producer / friend Don Alsterberg (Graveyard, José Gonzales), who pointed them in the direction of Kim Fransson.
Recorded at Studio Cobra in Stockholm with producer Martin Ehrencrona, Power & Volume amply demonstrates that the band have found a winning formula in their self-styled Freedom Rock.
Whether its the powering, pulsating title track, The Who-meets-Rush anthem Free Fall, or the frantic, forceful World Domination, Free Falls debut begs to be turned up.
Gatefold vinyl including poster.
