Description

Making his debut on Warp Records, Daniel Lopatin (more commonly known as Oneohtrix Point Never) unleashes R Plus Seven, his most diverse, cryptic and awe-inspiring album to date.

R Plus Seven is a fascinating change in direction from Oneohtrix Point Nevers previous work. While never straying too far from his virtuosic avant-garde synthesiser experiments, his debut album on Warp Records is by far his most focused, cerebral and captivating album to date, taking you on a truly unique and unpredictable journey.

Recorded in his Brooklyn apartment and mixed at Greenhouse Studios in Iceland, Sasha Frere-Jones of The New Yorker described it as music that gently triggers a series of images and feelings, none of which you can name and all of which feel entirely common.

Whereas a lot of Lopatins previous work relied on his trusted Roland Juno 60 analogue synthesiser, R Plus Seven marches confidently into digital terrain with a hugely eclectic choice of timbres, ranging from the classic orchestral sounds on opener Boring Angel to the punchy, high-definition keys and bass on Problem Areas. Discussing the albums overall feel, Lopatin said: I wanted to employ ersatz instrumentation to convey a sort of subliminal Hollywood sound.

Daniel Lopatin has been extremely busy in the time between R Plus Seven and his last album, 2011s Replica. As well as collaborating with fellow abstract electronic musician Tim Hecker for the 2012 album Instrumental Tourist, hes composed original music for Sofia Coppolas recent box-office hit The Bling Ring, built live soundscapes at the Museum Of Modern Art and performed at last years Cannes Film Festival on request of advertising titans Saatchi & Saatchi.

Oneohtrix Point Never is set to play shows in London and Glasgow on the week of the albums release, as well as making an appearance at the sold out End Of An Era ATP show in November.
