Released in 2023, The Ballad of Darren is Blur’s ninth studio album and their first in eight years — a record that finds the band in reflective, unhurried form. Produced by James Ford and recorded in London and Devon, it is quieter and more inward-looking than much of their back catalogue, built on atmosphere and restraint rather than the anthemic energy of their Britpop peak.
St Charles Square, Barbaric, The Narcissist and Russian Strings are among the standout tracks on an album that rewards patience.
