Produced by the band alongside Ken Nelson, it expanded on the sound of their debut with greater ambition and emotional range — bigger arrangements, more textured production and a confidence that runs through every track.
Singles like The Scientist, Clocks, In My Place and God Put a Smile Upon Your Face gave the album its commercial reach, while deeper cuts showed a band willing to take their time and let songs breathe. It remains one of the most cohesive records of its era.
