Tezeta is the seventh full-length album from Colombian producer Felipe Gordon — and without question his greatest single sonic statement yet. Inspired by the Ethiopian musical mode Tezeta — one of four modes within the traditional modal music system known as Qiñit, frequently used by Ethio-jazz pioneer Mulatu Astatke and often translated as nostalgia or longing — Gordon has woven a feeling of melancholy and affectionate yearning through every recording on this album. It is the base note in the recipe, sprinkled over jazz-sampled deep house tracks, powering vast arrays of synthesisers, underpinning explorations into trip hop and tuning his guitar. Tezeta is that feeling rendered in electronic music form — with 4/4, breakbeats, samples and synths.

Across fourteen tracks and four sides of vinyl, Gordon blends his trademark expansive, semi-organic and jazz-funk flecked deep house workouts with ultra-emotive downtempo numbers, jazzy interludes, surprise vocal outings, trip hop style head-nodders, Balearic dancefloor pop and spacey, forward-thinking club workouts.
