The Overdue EP is the debut 12 inch vinyl release from London producer Isaac Carter and vocalist Biyi on Carter’s own OCHI imprint — and as the title suggests, it has been a long time coming. A rare and charming case of UK hip house, the EP folds contemporary UK vocal phrasing into a groove language rooted in deep US house and early 2000s tech house, creating something completely unique that has typified the OCHI sound to date. Four tracks, tested in the club and finally pressed to wax.
Circulated widely in DJ sets for well over 18 months before pressing, these tracks have already been spun by the likes of Ben UFO, Seth Troxler, Floating Points, Raresh, Joy Orbison, Moxie and Bradley Zero — a roll call that speaks volumes about the quality and crossover appeal of Isaac Carter’s productions across the minimal, deep house and tech house worlds. Now available on 12 inch vinyl for the first time by popular demand.
‘Calling On Me’ and ‘Had To’ roll easy with warm low-end and clipped drums, sitting deep in that pocket of warm, rolling minimal and deep house grooves. ‘1 Up’ nudges tougher with a harder swing, while ‘Life We Live’ lands more reflective, Biyi’s voice sitting right up front — the pair moving in close formation, their chemistry unmistakable. Together the four cuts sit in a sweet spot between deep, warm underground house and the more precise, driving energy of early 2000s tech house.
This release also marks a new dawn for OCHI, with more vinyl releases due from the label as Isaac Carter’s own DJ career continues to flourish on a global scale. An essential debut pressing from one of the most exciting emerging voices in UK underground house music.
Perfect for DJs and collectors into minimal vinyl, deep house 12 inch vinyl, tech house records and forward-thinking UK underground house music.
