Description
180g Vinyl re-issue of classic 1970s Upsetters album with an extra disc of additional tracks in a gatefold sleeve. Recorded and produced by Perry at his own Black Ark Studios, it notably features ace Jamaican polyinstrumentalist Augustus Pablo on melodica (and maybe keyboards as well), his gentle playing adding some otherworldly melodic content to the sparse sound.
Kung Fu Meets the Dragon is a martial arts-themed project, largely made up of instrumental versions of some of Perrys productions (Roy Shirleys Hold Them, Linval Thompsons Kung Fu) and other musical pieces, enriched with Perrys trademark use of percussion and production tricks such as phasing, dubbing, talkover etc. and inspired by the wave of martial arts movies that were popular at the time.
The Upsetters: Augustus Pablo- melodica / Boris Gardiner- bass / Earl Chinna Smith- guitar / Mikey Boo Richards & Ben Bow drums / Bobby Ellis, Dirty Harry- horns / Keith Sterling- piano / Lee Perry, Skully- percussion
