Description
Born in 1976 in the west of Scotland, Roddy travelled extensively through his childhood, living in France and the United States before settling in Edinburgh to study photography, where he met his Idlewild band mates.
Always very vocal about his love of traditional Scottish folk music as well as groups such as Fairport Convention and the Incredible String Band, Roddy took time out from Idlewild to further explore the country and folk leanings of their then latest offering 2005s Warnings/Promises (which saw them headline the second stage at the Cambridge Folk Festival).
In 2006 Roddy released his debut solo album My secret is my silence. The record featured Rod Jones from Idlewild, Ailidh lennon and David Gow from Sons and daughters, and acclaimed folk musicians Andy Cutting, Kate Rusby, Ian Carr and Karine Polwart. It was produced by John McCusker. The album featured in many best of the year polls, including the Diverse Festive 50 and Pauls album of the year, and spent several weeks at number 1 in the UK folk charts.
To celebrate the tenth anniversary of this iconic release, Roddy took to the road to perform the album, and finally released the album on vinyl for the first time! Its been worth the wait!
