Released in 2023 and winner of the Mercury Prize, I Inside the Old Year Dying is PJ Harvey’s ninth studio album and one of the most quietly extraordinary records of recent years. Written as a companion to her poetry collection Orlam, it draws on the dialect and landscape of rural Dorset to create something deeply rooted and unlike anything else in contemporary music.

Produced by Harvey alongside Flood and John Parish, the album is sparse and atmospheric — voice, texture and space doing most of the work. It rewards patient listening and reveals more with each return, a record that exists entirely on its own terms.
