Recorded in 1956 for the EmArcy label, Vaughan joins with Hal Mooney and his orchestra to dive head-first into a collection of iconic ballads and standards. Opening with Billy Strayhorn’s ‘Lush Life’, Vaughan weaves her way through the set, which showcases her at her best. Rodgers & Hart’s ‘My Romance’ is a notable performance, and the raw emotion in ‘I’m Afraid the Masquerade Is Over’ is palpable.
