Somewhere Before is a live album by pianist Keith Jarrett recorded on August 30 & 31, 1968 at Shellys Manne- Hole in Hollywood, California. It features Charlie Haden on double bass and Paul Motian on drums. The trio covers Bob Dylans My Back Pages in an attractive, semi-funky style. Pretty Ballad is exactly what the title implies; Jazz hardly gets more subtle and beautiful than this. Moving Soon is a chaotic Free Jazz jam. In New Rag we begin to hear the distinctive Jarrett style. As an example of early, unfocused Jarrett, this is simply fascinating material.
