Omar Souleyman returns with a new album, To Syria, With Love, The album is a personal ode to Souleymans native country that eschews politics entirely. The record features keys by Hasan Alo and lyrics written by Souleymans longtime collaborator Shawah Al Ahmad. These songs are sonically specific and never look back from those first unrelenting beats but once you give in to the open emotions and the irresistible urge to dance, it makes for an ecstatic experience. In stepping away from the plusher production of Four Tet, as heard on Wenu Wenu (2013), and the likes of Gilles Peterson and Modeselektor on Bahdeni Nami (2015), he rediscovers the fire that attracted most of his worldwide fans.
