Originally issued in 2008, Weezers nuanced sixth studio album, aka the Red Album, is the bands third self-titled color-coded affair following their landmark 1994 debut (The Blue Album) and 2001 comeback (The Green Album). In frontman Rivers Cuomos own words the Rick Rubin and Jacknife Lee co-produced record is meaty, crunchy and melodic like a good Weezer album should be yet definitely more sophisticated and adventurous. Youll hear very long songs and non-traditional structures. The exploratory release stands as Weezers lone effort to feature lead vocals from all four band members although its Cuomos quirky and catchy numbers like Pork and Beans and Troublemaker that make the greatest impact.
